It is easy to be confused by an attorney’s fee structure. This is especially true when dealing with the different types of patent applications that may be filed. Even more confusing is when compared to other types of intellectual property protection, such as copyrights and trademarks.
I offer a flat fee based on the need. Typically, I offer a flat fee to prepare and file a patent application. If there is an office action that requires a response, I offer a flat fee to respond to it. I usually do not charge for phone calls and e-mails that can arise during the process. It’s that simple.
